Titian’s Recorders

Italian painter, draughtsman and printmaker Titian [Tiziano Vecellio] is considered to have been the greatest 16th-century Venetian painter, and the shaper of the Venetian colorist and painterly tradition. He is equally pre-eminent in all the branches of painting practiced in the 16th century: religious subjects, portraits, allegories and scenes from Classical mythology and history. Titian was active in Venice, and briefly in Padua, Rome and Augsburg. He was born in Pieve di Cadore (north of Venice) in  (1474/1482), and died in Venice (1576).
